ACT EXPLORE from ACT Advantage (Homeschool Solutions for Families) is an assessment tool for 8th-9th grade students that measures their skills and knowledge in 4 academic core subjects: English, Math, Reading, and Science. EXPLORE can be used to prepare students for the ACT Test, and the test results can tell you your student's strengths and weaknesses in each subject area, and whether or not they are on the right track for college.

The EXPLORE for Homeschool packet includes:
  • Testing booklet titled Sample Test Booklet and Answer Sheet
  • Using Your EXPLORE Results brochure—a brief overview of score results and the process
  • College Readiness Standards handbook—a handbook that provides ideas for progress in each subject to prepare students for college or the workforce
I used EXPLORE with my 8th grade student. This is a timed practice test that I was able to give her at home and evaluate her results. Giving her this test helped me to see the areas that we need to work on to be on the right track for her future college plans. It also helped me see how she was doing compared to other students at her grade level across the country. This test gave her a sense of what kind of questions she will be asked on the actual ACT test. It was a good practice session for her.

The EXPLORE for Homeschool from ACT Advantage is available for $22.95 for each packet. You can purchase from their website here. I think this is a very reasonable price for this program.

ACT Advantage PLAN is a measurement tool that provides a mid-high school review for 10th grade students' progress toward college and workforce readiness while there's still some time to make adjustments. The PLAN score gives you information about the 4 core subjects: English, Math, Reading, and Science.

The PLAN for Homeschool Packet includes:
  • Testing booklet titled Sample Test Booklet and Answer Sheet
  • Using Your PLAN Results brochure—a brief overview of score results and the process
  • College Readiness Standards handbook—a handbook that provides ideas for progress in each subject to prepare students for college or the workforce
I plan on using PLAN in 2 years to evaluate my oldest child's academic progress.

PLAN for Homeschool from ACT Advantage is $22.95 for each packet. You can purchase from their website here. Again, a reasonable price for this tool which can provide valuable information about your homeschooled student.

  1. My daughter took the PLAN test at the high school where she attends for two classes. I found the assessment very helpful. I did not know that there was an assessment tool for junior high as well.
