Maestro Classics (Review)

M.C. Tortoise and Hare

I don't know about you, but I just love sharing children's classic stories and fables that I remember from childhood with my own children. I was delighted to receive The Tortoise and the Hare from Maestro Classics to review for the TOS Crew.

Maestro Classics

Maestro Classics
is a new award-winning classical music CD series for children and families that combines classic stories with entertaining symphony orchestra music. They combine literature, classical music, education and entertainment.

For the past few weeks, we have been studying the Orchestra at our house. I have been using an Orchestra Center for the kids to use each day...books on the orchestra, a file folder game, flash cards, etc. Although we're not able to go see an Orchestra performance at this time, I was thrilled to receive this CD from Maestro Classics for review. Not only, could we listen to the classic fable The Tortoise and the Hare, but my children could experience the sounds and emotions to go along with the story that we had been studying, played by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

We all enjoyed this classic tale, accompanied by the orchestra, on this CD, followed by a little bit about the story, and the moral of the fable, as well as the additional tracks on this CD, such as a song that is played during the story in full, as well as a little bit about the music, and the composer, and a sing-along too! This CD is over 53 minutes long! Full of plenty of educational opportunities and enjoyment for your young students.

What an original idea ~ putting these classic stories with the sounds of the orchestra! There are many different titles available, including: The Story of Swan Lake, Juanita the Spanish Lobster (available in English as well as Spanish), Casey at the Bat, Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and Peter and the Wolf...classic tales that we all know and love. These are put together and accompanied by the orchestra, with lots of extras to go along with the stories for your children to enjoy. The narrator was enjoyable to listen to as well! Also included is a little booklet with information about the story, the animals in the story the orchestra, and more to enhance the learning.

Priced at $16.98 each. There are also gift packs available for a few of the stories. You can find out more here.

Currently, there are free lesson plans to go along with 2 of the CDs that Maestro offers; one for Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, and one for Casey at the Bat, available on the website.

My youngest 2 children found the CD we received (The Tortoise and the Hare) to be entertaining and enjoyable. My son, in particular claimed. "I know this story!" but was still enthralled by listening to it told by the narrator and the sounds of the orchestra. I would recommend this particular CD (The Tortoise and the Hare) for younger children, as its age appropriateness would be to the age that you would normally share these types of stories with. The ages for the other CDs available would vary, in my opinion. So, if you don't think your child would enjoy this particular story, please visit the website to see if there may be another one that you may find more age appropriate for your child. There are several to choose from!
