Super Star Games (Review)

I absolutely LOVE adding in fun games and activities into our homeschool for my kids. I especially love those that I can find inexpensively on the internet that I can download and print right at home.

I was thrilled to be able to review my fellow Crewmate Debbie’s Super Star Games product for the TOS Crew. Products developed by homeschool moms tend to be my favorite, as they understand how our children enjoy learning. Often times, they are just what I would have created myself, had I found the urge to do so! But, no need, because moms like Debbie have done an excellent job of creating products that we can use and enjoy.

Super Star Games are inexpensive supplemental games for the homeschool. They can be used to supplement language arts, science, or social studies. They are available to download from CurrClick, and offer the convenience of immediate availability. You can download and print and start playing within minutes of your purchase!

Here are the games I received along with descriptions and appropriate grade levels for participation:

  • Silly Snail: review parts of speech. Grades 3-6.
  • Planets, Moon, and Stars: trivia questions about space. Grades 3 and up.
  • Road to Revolution: 48 multiple choice question cards and game board about famous people, events, and causes of the Revolutionary War. Grades 3-8.
  • Explorers of the World: learn about 24 world explorers and their contributions to American and world history. Can be used as either a time line game or a matching game. Grades 3-8.
  • The Inventors Game: teaches your child about 14 famous inventors. Can be used as a matching or timeline game.
  • Covering the Continents: object of the game is to “settle” more continents than any other player. Includes questions about each of the 7 continents. Ages 6-10
  • Colony Quest: teaches children about the thirteen American Colonies and map skills. Grades 3-5.
  • Exploring Egypt Game: players race to be the first to the top of they pyramid by answering the most questions correctly about ancient Egypt. Grades 3-8.
  • Climb the Vine: All About Plants: question and answer board game that covers plant types, pollination, photosynthesis, trees, and more. Grades 3-6.
  • The Insect Game: learn about insects, players race to the the first to build a complete insect. Grades 2-6.
  • All About Animals: animal classification game. Grades K-5.

As you can see, most of these games cover a broad range of ages, which means they can be used with several children in a family. This was a big plus for me. Since we are all studying ancient Egypt this year, I liked that we could play Exploring Egypt together with all of my kids. In addition, several more games can be used to supplement our studies in any given homeschool year in our home.

The games are colorful, and simple to set up. The questions are challenging, educational, and fun. Although, not necessary for playing these games, after printing, I took my games to my local education resource center to laminate for longer durability. I then put them into file folders along with the directions for each game, which is also included in the printouts. I have them all neat, organized and ready to go whenever we want to play, whether it be added into our Workboxes or just for fun on any given school day.

Super Star Games cover a wide variety of topics as well, and can come in handy to supplement many subjects over the years. Whether you are studying animals, inventors, geography, the planets, whatever it may be, there is a game to add in to your homeschool day to get your kids excited about learning. I know my kids love it when we play games in our homeschool, and they retain so much more when we are having fun while learning together. Super Star Games offers an excellent choice of printable games for the homeschool for a reasonable price. They are available at CurrClick for only $3.50 each! And, if you’d like to purchase more than one game and save money at the same time, then you can also purchase them as a bundle. There are several different bundle options available and are listed by subject content.

Debbie also offers Super Star Speech: Speech Therapy Made Simple, a homeschool speech therapy program that gives parents the tools to help their children improve their articulation skills at home.
This manual includes:
  • an articulation test that assesses speech sounds in all word positions and compares errors to developmental norms.
  • specific instructions and tips for teaching every sound.
  • 240 picture cards
  • games and activities for enjoyable practice and drill.
  • reproducible lesson plan forms

Although I did not review Super Star Speech, I would have loved to have this when I first started homeschooling my Kindergartener that had speech and language delays. Some of my crewmates, however did review this product. Be sure to stop by the TOS Crew Page for Super Star Speech and Super Star Games to read about the products my cremates received for review.

These look fun. My little ones would have a great time using these, I think.

It's great that moms who have found a winning formula are willing to share it with others. That makes home schooling less of an isolated classroom and more like a community. I'm sure home school parents are always glad to learn of new educational tools AND a reasonable costs or free.
